Edwards Deming? (click on the link below to see his famed 14 Points For Management) In fact, pay close attention to Point No. 4: “End the practice of awarding business on the basis of price tag.  Instead, minimize total cost. Move toward a SINGLE SUPPLIER for any one item, on a long-term relationship of loyalty and trust.” If that sounds counterintuitive compared to, “Beat on your providers until you find the lowest price!” then ask yourself how Toyota, Honda, Sony, Komatsu, Nippon Steel, Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Fujitsu ate our country’s lunch decade after decade. I mean, we haven’t made a TV in the U.S. since 1974!
