Mr. Hanse’s philosophy begins with tying together a myriad of important qualities to ensure “a sense of place.” And having a sense of place leads to a sense of scale … consolidating bunkers, fairways, and greens with the natural landscape to ensure things work and feel just right. In fact, Hanse and Wagner methodically devise each hole to make the golfer “begin with the end in mind,” aka hitting a tee shot thoughtfully placed to gain a better angle for the approach – basically reverse-engineering success. It is that type of keen strategy that produces course harmony and an atmosphere of awe. Similarly, we hear from some astute shippers that they, too, have created a comparable atmosphere when choosing transportation partners with an overall strategy in mind. These professionals say that forging long-term strategic partnerships reduces costly waste and rework, simultaneously generating faster and more effective operations. In other words, “freight harmony.” So, the next time you get that 20th call of the day from some random broker “who would like a shot” and “can beat your current provider’s price,” just remember … A great golf hole makes you think.
